Day 1: Thursday, May 23

 

Welcome to Israel

 

Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport, where your group will be met by a driver and transferred to your hotel.

 

Relax, get acquainted with the area, and adjust yourself to local time.

 

Opening dinner at Chakra

 

After dinner in the streets of Geula and Mea Shearim, buzzing in preparation for Shabbat, take an evening Challah Tour.

Day 2: Friday, May 24

 

Places and faces of Jerusalem

 

Breakfast at your hotel

 

Begin your discovery of this holy city with a walking tour that brings you to some of the homes of the people who live there.

 

Lunch at Hamotzi.  Israeli Master Chef winner Avi Levy combines a North African cooking style with a Jerusalem flare to create a rich kaleidoscopic of flavors using local ingredients from the nearby Machane Yehuda market.

“The Workshop” is the well-thought-out ideology of four young men, who created a place where the menu features fresh ingredients with a minimum of treatment. Part of the charm is the interior of this building which was once a warehouse that served the Jerusalem railroad and railway station built in 1892.

Group to meet back at the hotel for a Shabbat shiur with possible guest speaker Dr. Elan Ezrachi to discuss the differences between living as a Jew in Israel vs. the Diaspora

 

Dr. Elan Ezrachi is a third generation native of Jerusalem. He has a doctorate from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. His adult life was mostly devoted to working on Diaspora–Israel relations and he was the founding CEO of Masa – Israel Journey. Elan is a community activist in Jerusalem and the author of a recent book entitled Awakened Dream – 50 Years of Complex Unification of Jerusalem.

Lunch at Abu Hassan, which started out in 1959 with a small hummus stand with two pots on Hadolphin Street near the Jaffa port.

 

Afternoon Options:

 

Inspired by the Freedom Trail in Boston, the new Independence Trail follows 10 stops of Tel Aviv’s heritage sites learning about the history of this great city along the way. The trail begins at the intersection of tree-lined Rothschild Boulevard and Herzl Street, home to Tel Aviv’s first kiosk. The trail ends across the street at Independence Hall, where on May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion read aloud the Declaration of Independence as Israel was declared an independent Jewish state.

Day 5: Monday, May 27

Photography workshop in the trendy Levinsky Market: Join a professional art photographer in a Smartphone Photography Workshop.  Learn to transform your photos from your smartphone or any other pocket camera from dull and ordinary to beautiful and unique photos. Finish your tour at the beautiful Herzelilinblum Museum showcasing.

 

Lunch: Walking street food tour of Tel Aviv.

 

Try Israel’s lesser known street food, sabich, at Sabich Tchernichovsky.

 

 

Eyal Shani has elevated the simple pita at Miznon with fresh gourmet cuisine stuffed in light and fluffy pitas. Try his signature roasted cauliflower as well.

 

Taste falafel at HaKosem, which in recent years has developed a serious cult following in Israel. Jerry Seinfeld even made a point to stop here on his last trip.

Day 7: Wednesday, May 29

 

Petra

Drive to Petra

 

Explore the main attractions of Petra through the Street of Facades, the Theatre, all the way down to the Nympheom and Qaser El- Bent.

 

Stop for lunch at the Nabatean restaurant in Petra

 

Return to Aqaba for the evening

Day 8: Thursday, May 30

 

Wadi Rum

 

Breakfast at your hotel

 

Head to Wadi Rum for a 3-hour jeep tour. Travel through Wadi Rum sand dunes and enjoy lunch in the desert. (Bedouin cookout)
Continue to the Arava border for your return to Israel
Cross back into Eilat and drive to Beresheet

Day 9: Friday, May 31

 

Negev

Five hundred meters deep, 40 kilometers long, and 10 kilometers at its widest, Makhtesh Ramon is the largest in the world. A Makhtesh is not actually a crater, it’s a particularly large asymmetrical hole dug out of the ground by natural processes of erosion.

Enjoy a morning hike through the geological formations at HaMinsara (the Carpentry Shop), with black prismatic rocks which look like wood. The rocks are composed of sea sand, which melted and turned into liquid during a volcanic eruption, and then cooled into these quartzite prisms.

Bringing Forth Bread from the Earth Workshop. Bake bread and connect to the desert and to the spiritual with Hadas who will tell you her story.
